Nokia Wednesday unveiled a new line of multimedia-focused handsets, including one with a 4GB hard disk aimed at music lovers and another sporting a two megapixel camera.
Nokia said its Nseries devices are aimed at 3G users and is based on its Series 60 smartphone platform, which is a variation of the Symbian OS. All the devices will support push e-mail, according to the company.
The company claimed its Nokia N90 is the first cameraphone based on optics from Carl Zeiss, a long-time player in the high-end photography business. The device sports what the company calls a "multi-hinge twist-and-shoot design." It will have a 20x digital zoom and a macro mode for close-ups. The N90 will be available by the end of the end of June, Nokia said.
"Not only is the (cameraphone) market growing at an enormous pace but is also developing rapidly to meet the needs of the more demanding picture taker," Juha Putkiranta, Nokia's senior vice president for multimedia imaging," said in a statement.
The N70 will also have a 2 megapixel camera and Nokia is touting it as the smallest Series 60-based device ever created. It also includes a music player and FM radio and will be available in the third quarter of 2005.
The N91 comes with a 4GB hard drive and is optimized for music and also has a two megapixel camera, according to Nokia. Besides supporting 3G access, it has built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB 2.0 support and built-in capabilities for managing music. The company says the device will store roughly 3000 songs in a variety of music formats including MP3, M4A, AAC and WMA and its battery is rated for 12.5 hours. This device won't be available until the end of the year.
Nokia provided no pricing information.
