All GrameenPhone mobile phone numbers will be changed to an 11-digit number series from the second week of April 2006. The GP SMS Service Center number will also be changed to an 11-digit one.

A separate digit will be added after the GP prefix 017 while the other portion of the individual GP numbers will remain unchanged. The additional digit after the prefix 017 for all existing GP subscribers will be “1”. The GP SMS Service Center will be changed from +88 0170000600 to +88 01700000600.

This is being done to overcome the limitations of the existing 10-digit number series. The valued GP subscribers are being informed about the change well in advance through advertisements in the media. A special media campaign in this regard has been started.
